Death of 4 and injury of 5 has been reported from the area near the Bangladesh Film Development corporation (BFDC) as a crown of people got trapped between two moving trains.
According to the information provided by Sub-inspector Rafique and operations officer of Kamalpur railway station few people were trapped between Dhaka bound Jamuna Express from Jamalpur and Chittagong bound train Karnaphuli Express at around 8 in the morning as the trains were passing the Kawranbazaar crossing.
The incident occurred as the people walking by the rail line shifted to the other line on noticing a train approach. However they were trapped when another train came to the level crossing. The train had hit two people before they could move away.
One has been reported to be dead on spot and 8 others were injured. The victims were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where three others succumbed to their injuries. Identity of one was unavailable.
Two identified deceased were Monwara Begum (50), and Abuld Malek (60) who was a government official. The situation of the ones injured has been reported to be critical.
