ICT-1 issues arrest warrant against Abdul Jabbar

TBT Live Update: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today issued warrant to arrest Engineer Abdul Jabbar, a former Jatiya Party MP, for his alleged crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.

The tribunal issued the order taking cognizance of the charges brought against the accused, who was chairman of a Peace Committee in Mothbaria, Pirojpur district in 1971. The tribunal also set June 2 for further hearing of the matter.

The prosecution yesterday submitted the formal charge against Jabbar, who according to the investigation agency played a key role in forming Razakar Bahini in Mothbaria, to office of the ICT registrar.

The prosecution brought 5 charges against the accused.

Today Prosecutor Jahid Imam took part in the hearing and pleaded for issuing the warrant. The tribunal accepted his plea, however, expressed its dissatisfaction over concerned authority’s failure in bringing the accused before justice, saying, “We are issuing warrants, but are not being able to see any visible development in nabbing the accused or bringing the absconding accused before justice.”

The investigation agency handed over the probe report against Jabbar on April 29, accusing him of his involvement in crimes like murder, genocide, forced conversion and others.
