UNDP project for constructing houses for slum dwellers in Rajshahi

undp (113 x 230)RAJSHAHI : The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has planned to construct house for the slum people in the city, reports BSS.
To this end, UNDP through its ‘Urban Partnership for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP)’ has adopted a long- tern scheme titled “Community-led Tenure Security and Housing Improvement” for starting implementation work. The implementation work will start from the next month.
UPPRP Adviser KA Jayaratne revealed this during his courtesy call on Mayor of Rajshahi Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul at latter’s city bhaban office yesterday.
Jayaratne apprized the mayor that the project is a long term one under which housing will be constructed for the city’s poor and extreme poor communities in phases.Local people will get scopes of involving themselves in the project gradually.
Taking part in the discussion Mayor Bulbul expressed his gratitude to the UNDP and its UPPRP for its endeavor towards improving living and livelihood condition of the poor community.
He also extended thanks for adopting the housing project for the slum people. Bulbul viewed that the city’s landscape will be more beautified if all the houses to be constructed were in the same design and colour.
Besides, he referred to the UNDP’s Comprehensive Disaster Management Project (CDMP) being implemented in different parts of the country other than Rajshahi. “We are very much interested to uplift socio-economic condition of our people through the CDMP if Rajshahi is included”, he said.
RCC Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali, Executive Engineer Nur Islam Tusser and UPPRP Town Manager Ershadul Haque were present at the meeting, among others.
