Hasan to inaugurate rubber board head office in Chittagong today

CHITTAGONG: The head office of the country’s first ever rubber board, the regulatory body for overall development of the rubber industry, will be established in Chittagong, reports BSS.
“Establishment of head office of the rubber board in Chittagong is another commitment of the present government for turning the port city into a commercial capital, ” said Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud. The minister disclosed this at an iftar party hosted by him in honour of journalists at a city hotel on Friday evening.
The minister himself will inaugurate the office at Bangladesh Forests Development Corporation (BFDC), in city’s Chandgaon area.
Chairman of BFDC will look after the board as chairman in additional to his present assignment. Speaking at the function, the environment minister said Chittagong Television Center will be upgraded to a second terrestrial television center in the country within one or two months.
The minister said Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is very careful about development of Chittagong. He said the government has been carrying out huge development works in Chittagong, including a 20 storied international exposition cum convention center at a cost of TK 350 crore, construction of a tunnel under Karnaphuli river at a cost of TK 5500 crore, a outer ring road around the port city and development of the largest botanical garden in Cox’s Bazar.
